What is this site all about?
This: Clear dark skies.
I have been a space nut since childhood, but only recently became active in backyard astronomy again. It began with a gift of Terry Dickenson's excellent book Nightwatch. Following this, I spent some time with visual and binocular astronomy, and was then given a gift membership in the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC). In April of '03 I took posession of my first telescope, and I have been having serious fun with astronomy (on a budget!) ever since.
Astronomy can be an expensive hobby. There are many superb quality telescopes that most backyard astronomers can only drool at, and there are many fine and pricey accessories that can add to the cost of your setup. But you don't have to spend a mint to enjoy the hobby. The main purpose of this site is for me to provide a resource for beginning astronomers, and most importantly, backyard astronomers on a budget, by sharing my experiences over the past years. I also want to give back to the community that has helped me along the way.
Inside this site you find plenty of information on -
Use the Navigation bar at the top to the get started, or jump straight to some theory in the Science of Astronomy section, or jump into some practical pointers in Backyard Astronomy.
I am excited about the changes to this site. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy creating it!
